pinned connections
with Victor Stolvoboy
A pinned connection can be described as a connection of two or more structural members by means of an additional element - Pin. Like any other connection it has to allow the transfer of tension (compression) forces and torque between structural elements. Based on this definition and requirements pinned connections can be systematized.
Axonometric pinned system
Pinned connections can be used to create spatial structural systems. Questions of stability must be given special attention. In the proposed system several types of pinned connections are used. The joint connection at the bottom of pillars has a lateral stability, but since it’s a hinge it must be stiffened in another axis.
The extension connection of pillars is stiff. Elements take the torque, the pin takes axial tension and compression forces. Cables for stiffening are attached with hinges which can only take tension. A total of three cables are needed. The roof elements are also adjustable and allow different variations, their connections to pillars are made laterally stable.
