the spider
The Atlas that was prepared by the students in the beginning of the semester acts as a reference book for the design projects later on.
The Buchegg Atlas research focused on different categories. The drawing that I have produced was under the category infrastructure.
The public crossing bridge and tower in the center of the square was planned in the 1970s through a competition. The Stuecheli Architects won the competition and t was built in 1976. It was nicknamed the “Spider” because of its strangely shaped walkways that connect specific points around this transportation hub.
The Tower houses an elevator, a storage room in the basement and nowadays communications equipment on top. It is constructed out of reinforced concrete. The arms of the tower are made out of steel profiles and pre-fabricated concrete blocks.
